Study Overview
Foreign substances such as pathogens that enter the body are recognized by immune cells such as macrophages, which secrete various cytokines to initiate an immune response. Secreted cytokines stimulate cellular immunity and antibody production by activating B cells and T cells. Meanwhile, inflammatory cytokines promote metabolism by inducing rapid cell death at the site of infection, but excessive responses can lead to inflammation.
This study will examine the effect of the test substance on cytokine production in macrophages, which play a central role in the immune response.
