Study Overview
Tyrosinase regulates melanin production, making its activity a crucial metric for evaluating the efficacy of skin-whitening products. This enzyme is important to study because inhibiting it is the primary mechanism for reducing skin pigmentation and treating hyperpigmentation.
This study examines if test substances are able to inhibit the activity of tyrosinase as a measure of melanin synthesis inhibition. As a readout, the dopachrome levels produced by tyrosinase is measured by using L-DOPA as a substrate.
