Study Overview
The nervous system consists of neurons and glial cells. Glial cells produce neurotrophic factors like NGF and BDNF, which are essential for neuron differentiation, regeneration, and maintenance. Consequently, substances that stimulate the production of these factors may help treat neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.
In this assay, glial cells are used to understand if a test substance is able to promote the production of neurotrophic factors such as NGF.
