Study Overview
COVID-19’s cause, the SARS-CoV-2 virus, penetrates human cells by using its surface spike protein to bind with ACE2 proteins found on the cell membrane. Our test system allows us to study the effects of substances that are able to prevent the infection of cells by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
This study assesses if a test substance can prevent the infection of cells by the coronavirus. A Pseudovirus containing the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein as a safe model virus and cells presenting the ACE2 receptor are used in this assay. In addition to the most common coronavirus variant, we are able to perform this test on other variants, such as Omicron.
